Mrákotín (Jihlava District)

Mrákotín ( German Mrakotin ) is a market town in the Czech Republic. It is situated 27 kilometers northeast of Hradec Jindřichův and belongs to Okres Jihlava.

Geography

Mrákotín located in the Javořická Highlands, the highest part of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. To the northwest rises the Javořice ( 837 m). The crossed by the brook Myslůvka place is situated at the northern foot of the 593 m high hill Hora and is surrounded by three large ponds Dolni Mrzatec, Hamer and Žibřid. To the north lies the ruins Štamberk ( Sternberg ).

Neighboring towns are Lhotka in the north, Vanov and Částkovice in the northeast, and Hostetice Krahulčí in the east, Horni Myslová and Borovná the southeast, Dobra Voda and Olší ​​in the south, Praskolesy in the southwest and Hamry and Horni Bolíkov in the West.

History

Mrákotín was probably founded in the 12th century. First records of the town was in 1385 as a possession of the castle Štamberk / Sternberg. After its destruction in the Hussistenkriegen Mrákotín became part of the dominion Telc and belonged to the Lords of Hradec. Since 1569 Mrákotín was designated as town, the exact time of the survey is not known. In the 16th and 17th century gold and silver mining was operated at Dobra Voda, who during the reign of Zacharias of Hradec had its heyday. It was later unsuccessfully tried to revive the mining industry.

After the death of the last male descendant of the Lords of Hradec, Joachim Ulrich von Neuhaus, whose possessions in 1604 was inherited by his daughter Lucie Otilie, who was married to William Slawata since 1602. Joachim Graf Slawata founded in 1682 at a mineral spring at Dobra Voda, the Jáchymovy Lázně ( Joachimsbad ) and let the Church of St. Joachim build. After the 1710 bathing was reinstated. 1684 Mrákotín received the privilege for two annual fairs by Emperor Leopold I.. Upon the death of the last Slawata Mrákotín dropped as part of the rule Teltsch 1712 to Franz Anton von Liechtenstein - Kastelkorn, which they inherited to Alois Podstatský of Prusinowitz. The place was known primarily for the Mrakotiner granite. The fine-grained rock has a good quality. The Mrákotíner stonemasons built in 1923 for the President Masaryk long the 1928 established 15.5 m and 96 -ton monolith for the Prague Castle. This work proved more difficult than expected. Since Mrákotín had no railway conclusion, the monolith of 19 m length had to be transported by means of laid on the road tracks to Telc. During transport tore at a hill, the pull cable and the load hurled from the tracks. Here, the monolith was broken into two parts, the larger of which at Prague Emauskloster and the smaller was erected in Telc.
