IMO no. 8601915

The Amorella is a cruise ferry, which is used by the Viking Line on the route Turku-Mariehamn/Långnäs-Stockholm. It was built in 1988 by Brodogradilište Split in Yugoslavia.

History

The Amorella 1986 was appointed by the SF Line, a partner of the Viking Line consortium. Although Brodogradilište Split outbid other shipyards, offered the Finnish State to to subsidize the construction of the ship, when it would be built in a shipyard in Finland. This was common practice in the 1980s, to bring more jobs to Finland, but this time the SF Line refused, and ordered the ship in Yugoslavia. The originally planned delivery of Amorella was in March 1988, but delays in construction was not completed until September, making the SF Line was forced to operate the lucrative summer business with the existing ships.

Except for short periods of time in the years 1997, 1998 and 2002, the Amorella served throughout the route Turku-Mariehamn/Långnäs-Stockholm, making it the altgedientesten ship on this route. Originally they put on only when driving during the day in Mariehamn, but in July 1999 she had in both directions on the Åland islands to create, to allow duty-free sales on board, so a stop in Långnäs was inserted for the night ride.

Incidents

In 1993, the ship ran aground near Stockholm. While it could come free on their own, but the hull was damaged; Water penetrated, and diesel oil ran from a damaged tank. The ship was able to continue his journey to Stockholm, and after all the passengers disembark and all the charge were deleted, the Amorella went for repair to the shipyard Luonnonmaan Telakka in Naantali.

1995 and again in 2001 there were eruptions of fire in a cabin that could be cleared with standard tools. In May 2005, a fire started in a parked vehicle on deck 5, which was also deleted from the ship's crew. In March 2010, the ship of icebreakers had to be freed from thick pack ice, where it was stuck together with other ships. It collided with the Finnfellow Finnlines.

In December 2013, the Amorella ran on a rock. The ferry with 1945 passengers and crew members on board was en route from Turku to Mariehamn in Åland.
