Action

Aside from a few cuts the plot and dialogue of the film were largely unchanged from William Shakespeare's play, yet there are some differences:

Firstly, the film is set in the present time, and while the figure in the original Conrade is male, it is in the film a woman who has a relationship with Don Juan. Furthermore, some scenes of the chamber wife Margaret were transferred to the chamber maid Ursula and several secondary characters - including Leonato 's brother Antonio - were replaced by a consultant Leonatos. The film also raises through flashbacks forth an interpretation of the text, according to which Beatrice and Benedick in the past had a one- night stand. This interpretation refers to the first scene of the second act in Shakespeare's original, in Beatrice on the accusation that she had lost Benedict heart, responds:

"It is true, sir, he has given me some time, and I gave him his interest for it, a double heart for a simple one. Since then he had it taken away from me again with loaded dice, so that your grace may well say I have lost it. "

These lines are to be understood as Beatrice and Benedick have ever had feelings for each other, which is not about a new love in the film, but an old one that inflames new.
