Geography

The Munster extends from Staufen im Breisgau up in the Black Forest. It is divided into several side valleys and stretches as in direction Ballon, through the district Stohren in the direction of Freiburg mountain Schauinsland and the Münster stockpile in the direction Badenweiler.

Community structure

Munster / Black Forest consists of the formerly independent communities Obermünstertal and Untermünstertal with a total of 65 villages, hamlets, tine, farms and houses.

Untermünstertal

History

The village 's cathedral was mentioned in 1258 and gave the valley its name. In 1346 it was destroyed by the counts of Freiburg.

On 1 December 1971, the independent municipalities Obermünstertal and Untermünstertal merged to community Munster / Black Forest.

Tourism

The Munster is a rurally structured community. Tourism is managed by the Tourist was founded in 1935.

Traffic

Munster is connected by train to Bad Munster Krozingen to the national rail network. The railway is operated by the Southwest German transport company. The electrification of the line is completed and on 21 September 2013, the electric train operation has been officially recorded.

Museums

  • In the Black Forest House 1902 ( formerly the Kaltwasserhof ) in which the same ARD series was filmed, which was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2003, is a museum, which reports both the television production as well as about life on the mountain farm.
  • The beekeeping museum is known far beyond the borders of Baden addition and reports on the coexistence of man with the bees from the beginnings in the Stone Age to the present. It is the largest of its kind in Europe.

The Benedictine St.Trudpert was founded in the 9th century. The monastery has long been the center of the place and the output of the Christianization of the southern Black Forest. Today it is the mother house of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

In the district Obermünstertal to also find the ruins of the castle Scharfstein.
