Musa Manarov

Mussa Chiramanowitsch Manarov (Russian Муса Хираманович Манаров, scientific transliteration Musa Chiramanovič Manarov; born March 22, 1951 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, USSR ) is a retired Soviet cosmonaut. He belongs to the ethnic group of the Muslim Adygei ( Circassians ), which is located in the North Caucasus.

Manarov was selected on 1 December 1978 for the cosmonaut squad. He flew as a Flight Engineer on Soyuz TM -4 and Soyuz TM -11 into space. He retired on 23 July 1992.

Overall, it was 541 days in space, a record that was only broken in November 1994 by Valeri Polyakov. Meanwhile Manarov is number 8 in the list of spaceman with the longest time spent in space.

In 2007 he was elected to the Duma, the Russian parliament.
