Mutaz Essa Barshim

Moataz Essa Barshim (* June 24, 1991 in Doha, Arabic: معتز عيسى برشم ) is a Qatari high jumper.

Career

Barshim began his athletics career in the youth field as skiers and long distance runner before he in 2008 specialized in the high jump and visited the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence in Doha. First international successes came in 2010. This year, he was among other hall Asian champion, Junior World Champion and won at the Asian Games in Guangzhou. He also participated at the World Indoor championships in his native city of Doha, where he however failed to qualify for the finals themselves.

2011 Barshim won at the Asian Championships in Kobe the gold medal and finished at the World Championships in Daegu seventh. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he scored his hitherto most significant international success, where he secured the bronze medal with the same height Derek Drouin and Robert Grabarz. The following year he won the silver medal behind Ukrainian Bohdan Bondarenko at the World Championships in Moscow. At the World Indoor Championships in 2014, he won skipped in the first attempt 2,38 m in front of the same height favorites Iwan Uchow the first indoor world title for his country.

Moataz Essa Barshim is 1.92 m tall, weighs 70 kg, and is trained by Stanisław Szczyrba since September 2009.
