My Bloody Valentine (band)

My Bloody Valentine is a company incorporated in 1983 in Dublin Irish / English rock band. Along with bands like Lush, Slowdive, Curve and ride they coined a genre that was called in the English music press as shoegazing.

Band History

Original members of My Bloody Valentine were guitarist and singer Kevin Shields and drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig who knew each other since childhood in the 70s and had already played in several bands in Dublin together. Along with Dave Conway was founded and in 1983 My Bloody Valentine; they took their name from the title of a Canadian horror film. After a tour through the Netherlands and Germany they took in Berlin in 1985 their debut EP This Is Your Bloody Valentine on.

After moving to London and some personnel changes in 1987 stabilized the members of the band, which now consisted of Shields, Ó Cíosóig, the guitarist and vocalist Bilinda Butcher and bassist Debbie Googe. During this time they produced some EPs; achieved their breakthrough in 1988 with My Bloody Valentine but the You Made Me Realise EP, released on Creation Records, and the subsequent EPs and albums.

After 1991 had brought the costly for an independent label production of Loveless Creation Records in financial trouble, My Bloody Valentine switched to Iceland Records. After the band approximately £ 500,000 of Iceland Records had issued for a studio and photographs had been produced without usable results, finished the record company the contract without that it was never published. After the band broke up.

During the inactivity of My Bloody Valentine Kevin Shields worked with Experimental Audio Research, Curve and Primal Scream, and isolated as a producer and remixer. Colm Ó Cíosóig recorded an album with Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. 2003 Sometimes used from the Loveless album in Sofia Coppola's film Lost in Translation, along with four new tracks by Kevin Shields. In 2004, there were rumors of a reunion, but not once were confirmed. But several concert dates for the UK in 2007 were announced, half of which was sold out immediately. In 2008 and 2009 the band played a series of concerts, among other things, she appeared at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and at the Benicassim in Barcelona.

Since 27 January 2013, My Bloody Valentine are again on a concert tour. After 22 years, the band released early February 2013 her third album mbv.

Style

Her style, a blend of multi-layered guitar tracks, mixed into the background vocals and the use of guitar feedback as a stylistic device, made My Bloody Valentine the way for the British independent music scene in the early 1990s. The English music press coined for this type of music later the term shoegazing. As influences the band The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, Wire and The Jesus and Mary Chain stated; Kevin Shields called The Beach Boys as a personal influence.

Kevin Shields elaborate and energetic feedback guitar sound had at the beginning of the 1990s influential on American bands of the grunge environment such as the Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr..
