Nacka Municipality

Nacka is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish Stockholm County and in the counties of Södermanland and Uppland.

The center is the city of Nacka, 1949 received city rights, and thus is one of the youngest cities in Sweden. The municipality has about 79,000 inhabitants, who are mainly concentrated in the urban centers.

Geography

The municipality of Nacka is characterized by a rugged rocky landscape, the steep slopes down to the Baltic Sea and its bays. The peaks are often bare or sparsely covered with earth. The rocks are remnants of a mountain range that existed before 2,000 million years ago. During the last Ice Age, the area was pressed from the ice below sea level. It was not until about 1000 BC appeared the first peaks again from the Baltic. Today, the community is very diverse with coniferous forests, swamps and lakes.

History

In the 18th century, several industrial companies from Stockholm attracted to Nacka, since it had become them too tight in the city. The industrial revolution allowed these industries to flourish and soon Nacka was an important industrial center. One of the most important companies was the shipyard Finnboda Varv that existed here from 1878 to 1991.
