Namibia Press Agency

The Namibia Press Agency ( Namibian Press Agency ), NAMPA abbreviated, is the public Namibian press and news agency. Its seat is located in the capital Windhoek.

The agency was originally founded in 1987 as Namibia Press Association of SWAPO and, after Namibia's independence in 1991 its present name. It operates under the regulations of the Namibia Press Agency Act of 1992.

About 20 journalists and 30 other employees work for the NAMPA. Besides the main office in Windhoek, the agency has regional offices in Swakopmund, Gobabis, Ongwediva, Opuwo and Rundu.

Services

NAMPA provides text and image services for national and international press. There is, especially in the distribution of international news in Namibia, worked closely with international agencies Reuters, Agence France-Presse, Associated Press, the South African Press Association, Antara news and the Press Trust of India.

Finances

The Agency has been working since inception, despite the implementation of commercialization in 2001, heavily in deficit. Thus, the company could be saved in May 2011 only through a debt relief.
