National Women's Soccer League

The National Women 's Soccer League is currently the only professional football player in women's football league in the United States. She took in 2013 with an initial eight franchises the league play and was the 2014 season to nine participants expanded. With the WUSA ( game operation from 2001 to 2003 ) and the WPS ( 2009-2011) there were previously two short-lived professional Frauenfußballigen in the USA.

History

On 20 November 2012, the formation of a new professional league in the U.S. women's soccer was announced.

Season 2013

The premiere season of NWSL launched on 13 April 2013, the game FC Kansas City to Portland Thorns FC. First scorer was the Mexican Renae Cuellar, was in this game, scored the 1-0 (final score 1-1) and first leader of Sky Blue FC, which was able to win the only association his opening match. The first coaching change took before the Washington Spirit who freely exhibited their coach Mike Jorden on July 1. His successor was the former coach of the Washington reserve team, Mark Parsons. On November 20, 2012 it was announced that eight franchises would participate in the 2013 season. Four of them have names that already contributed participating franchises also on the WPS. In December 2013 it was announced that the franchise the Houston Dash will expand the number of participants from the 2014 season.

Every year in January each of the participating at the upcoming season Franchises are allocated in the context of an allocation procedure internationals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The content of these players take on all shutdown national associations to keep the personnel costs of franchises as low as possible and still allow the players bets on professional level.

Media

Most games are broadcast free of charge on the internet through YouTube and on the websites of individual franchises, but are not available in Germany because Geoblockings. In the first season, the Boston Breakers were the only franchise that demanded a fee for the transfer of their home matches.

On 18 April 2013, the NWSL signed a contract with Fox Sports Networks on the TV broadcast of nine games of the 2013 season, including the three play-off games.

Regular Season

Season 2013

Each team completed the regular season in 22 games, encountering every enemy between two and four times.

2014 season

With the expansion of the field, the season was extended to 24 game days. Each franchise competes against each other three times, while each team has to play 12 days of home advantage.

Play-offs

The top-ranked four teams will play in a play-off consisting of two semi-finals and a final, the championship of the NWSL from. Home right in the play- off games each team is the team, which could be placed better in the regular season.

Trophies

The top ranked franchise in the regular season wins the so-called NWSL Shield, while the winner of the final match for the championship with the so-called NWSL Championship Trophy will be awarded. Both trophies adorned with the logo of the NWSL.

After the end of the regular season gives the NWSL awards for the scorer, the most valuable player, as well as the best young player in each case, goalkeeper, defender and the best coaches.
