Neftegorsk, Samara Oblast

Neftegorsk (Russian Нефтегорск ) is a city in Samara Oblast (Russia) with 19,254 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 100 km southeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Samara on the left bank of the Sjesschaja, a left tributary of the opening into the Volga Samara.

Neftegorsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

Nearest railway station is 36 km away Bogatoje along the route Samara - Orenburg.

History

Neftegorsk was created in 1960 as a workers' settlement at a petroleum deposit, received in 1966 the status of an urban-type settlement and 1989, the city law. The name is derived from the Russian neft for petroleum.

Neftegorsk is one of the centers of the petroleum and natural gas production ( by Samaraneftegaz, area Bogatowskneft ) of Samara Oblast. Oil and gas are processed in several lying around refineries. There is also a shoe factory farms and the food industry; around agriculture.
