Pokhvistnevo, Samara Oblast

Pochwistnewo (Russian Похвистнево ) is a city in Samara Oblast (Russia) with 28,169 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 160 km northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Samara on the left bank of the Great Kinel ( Bolshoi Kinel ), a right tributary of the opening into the Volga Samara.

Pochwistnewo the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The city lies on the southern branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway Moscow - Samara Chelyabinsk - Omsk ( 1257 line kilometers from Moscow).

History

Pochwistnewo was created in 1888 during the construction of the railway line Samara Zlatoust - ( Samara Slatouster railway), which was later extended to Chelyabinsk ( opened in 1892 ) and formed the basis for the original route of the Trans -Siberian Railway. The name is derived from a family name which is detectable in the form Poswisnew to the 16th century. In 1902-1904, the station has been greatly expanded, and the associated city began to grow.

1935 ( according to other sources in 1929 ) he became the administrative center of a Rajons. 1939 have been discovered in the area oil deposits. 1947 Pochwistnewo received its town charter.

Since 4 September 1997 there has been a twinning Prenzlau in Germany.
