Otradny, Samara Oblast

Otradny (Russian Отрадный ) is a city in Russia in Samara Oblast. It has 48 356 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and lies about 90 km east of the regional capital of Samara on the river Bolshoi Kinel ( river system in the Volga).

History

Otradny (originally Otradnoje ) was created in the 1920s as a village. In 1946 it grew to the workers' estate Muchanowo that arose in the course of development of an oil field, a year later, the village and the settlement to the place Otradny merged. Since 1956 the place has the city status.

Economy and infrastructure

Otradny is an industrial town, with an emphasis on petroleum processing. Further, there are plants for the production of construction materials, food and textiles.

The town has a railway station, from where there are over Samara train to other regions of Russia.
