Niagara Escarpment AVA

Niagara Escarpment AVA ( recognized since 11 October 2005) is a wine region in the state of New York. The area lies in the zone of the Niagara Escarpment, which is called in English the Niagara Escarpment.

After Prohibition, the wine was very difficult to take step, although first vineyards in the 19th century were created. Since the 1990s, eventually emerged ten wineries, representing their merger in the Niagara Wine Trail. The wine-growing activity on the Canadian side of the Niagara River, the Niagara Peninsula (→ Viticulture in Canada ) is more pronounced.

The overall cool climate viticulture affects the choice of grape varieties. In addition to very hardy and early maturing French hybrid vines or local new varieties, the choice is increased to improve early maturing European noble grapes to the quality of the wines.
