Nobutaka Machimura

Nobutaka Machimura (Japanese町 村 信 孝, Machimura Nobutaka; born October 17, 1944 in Ebetsu ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party and a former foreign minister of his country. Within the LDP, he leads (together with Hidenao Nakagawa and Shuzen Tanigawa 2007-2009 ) since 2006, the Machimura faction.

Life

In 1969 he completed his studies at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo, after which he worked until 1981 in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry ( MITI). Since December 1982 he has been continuously a member of the Japanese Parliament. After he acted as minister of education in several cabinets, he was on 27 September 2004 to 31 October 2005, Japanese Foreign Minister. His successor as foreign minister Taro Aso. After the reshuffle of August 27, 2007 Machimura was for a short time again foreign minister in the cabinet of Shinzō Abe.
