Noreaz is a municipality in the District de la Sarine ( German: Sarine district) of the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Geography

Noreaz is located on 638 m above sea level. M., 10 km west of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The farming village extends along an inclined towards the south slope on the northern edge of the plain of Lac de Seedorf, in Molassehügelland of Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​6.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen between the Broyeebene in the northwest and the Glânetal in the southeast. The municipal area has in the south share of up to 1.5 km wide level of Lac de Seedorf. Also the Seedorfsee is completely within the municipality, while the pond La Goillette heard only the northern part to Noreaz. To the east this plain is drained by the Sonnaz the Sarine. To the west it coincides with a steep slope into the erosion valley of Arbogne, which forms the western boundary of the municipality.

M. ) on the plateau of Noreaz as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Noreaz are Ponthaux, Chésopelloz, Avry, Prez -vers- Noreaz and Montagny.

Population

Noreaz one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the 91.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 6.1 % and 1.5 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Noreaz amounted in 1900 to 455 inhabitants. After peaking in 1920 with 641 inhabitants, a decrease of about 35 % to 407 persons has been registered by strong emigration until 1980. Since then a slight population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Noreaz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing, dairy farming and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region of Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Prez -vers- Noreaz after Grolley. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois that leads from Freiburg to Nierlet -les- Bois, Noreaz is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1134 under the name Noarea. The place name comes from the Latin word nucariolum ( walnut grove ). Since the Middle Ages Noreaz belonged to the rule Montagny. The Lords of Montagny talked a castle here. In 1447 the village was cremated in the war of Freiburg against the Savoy of the former.

By buying Noreaz came in 1478 under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Montagny has been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic to the district Payerne, from 1803 to the district Montagny and in 1815 the district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the Sarine district.

Attractions

The Church of Noreaz was built during the 20th century. The Seedorf castle, a stately mansion on the northern edge of the Seedorfebene, 1769. Since 1974, Seedorf houses a vocational training center.
