Oiselay-et-Grachaux

Oiselay -et- Grachaux is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Oiselay -et- Grachaux situated at an altitude of 351 m above sea level, about 21 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the south of the department, to the north of the Valley of the Ognon on a saddle between the plateaus of the Monts de Gy and the separately standing castle hill.

The area of ​​22.99 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The central part of the area is occupied by two sinks, which are separated by the ridge, topped by the castle hill, a 428 m high cone- shaped elevation. To the east is the broad valley of Hauterive, which belongs to the topographic catchment area of ​​the Ruisseau de la Douain (right tributary of the Ognon ). West of the village, the valley of Oiselay expands, which opens to the Saôneebene out. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The site is primarily used by arable and meadow land.

The Valley of Oiselay is flanked on the west by elongated ridge of the Bois de Grachaux and the Bois du Vermot. In the Bois de Grachaux the highest elevation of Oiselay -et- Grachaux is achieved with 432 m. On the northwestern part of the municipality of soil ranges in the range of Grachaux to the edge of the Saôneebene. To the southwest, the municipality's area extends over a terrain level to the plateau of the Monts de Gy ( to 405 m). This plateau is mostly covered with forest ( Bois de l' Échelotte ) and is subdivided on the edge through various short gullies.

In geological terms, the area of Oiselay -et- Grachaux is complicated. It is divided by numerous parallel faults, so that deposits in part of the Tertiary, and partly from the upper and middle Jurassic period are pending. Hard limestone alternate with soft sandy- marly and clayey sediments.

The municipality consists of the village Oiselay (351 m) and the hamlet Grachaux (320 m) on a terrace on the west side of the Bois de Grachaux on the edge of Saôneebene. Neighboring communities of Oiselay -et- Grachaux are Frasnian -le- Château and Fretigney -et- Velloreille in the north, cordonnet in the east, Bonn Event Velloreille and Montboillon in the south and Bucey -lès- Gy Velleclaire and Villers- Chemin -et -Mont- lès- Étrelles in the West.

History

The earliest evidence of human presence on the communal land of Oiselay -et- Grachaux date from the Neolithic period. In Gallo- Roman times, the area was from the Road, which led from Besancon to Langres, crosses. In the Middle Ages Oiselay belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It was home to an important noble family, which wielded the local rule over the village and the surrounding countryside and went out only in the year 1652. Since 1213 Oiselay formed the center of a provost. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

In 1807 the two communities Oiselay and Grachaux merged (1806: 64 inhabitants) to the new community Oiselay -et- Grachaux. Today the church is a member of the comprehensive 28 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The village church of Oiselay was rebuilt around 1705. It has a rich interior, including altars from the 17th and 18th centuries, grave plates. The Lavoir, which formerly served as well, wash and livestock watering, was built in 1831 by architect Cornuty. Its roof is supported by twelve columns. On the castle hill are the ruins of the manor house of the family of Oiselay.

Population

With 398 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Oiselay -et- Grachaux one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 610 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Oiselay -et- Grachaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, especially in the field of precision engineering. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Etuz after Fretigney -et- Velloreille. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 20 km. Further road links exist with Seveux, Rioz and cordonnet.
