Olavi Salsola

Olavi Armas Tapani Salsola ( born December 26, 1933 Keuruu; † October 8, 1995 in Rauma ) was a Finnish middle distance runner. In 1957 he wrote together with his compatriot Olavi Salonen for one day the world record in the 1,500 meters.

Salsola took in 1956 at the Summer Games in Melbourne in part. About 1500 meters but he failed in the flow. Salsola in 1957 was the second time after 1955 Finnish Champion in the 800 -meter distance. On 11 July 1957 he started in Turku in a 1500 - meter race. Salsola won this run concurrently with Olavi Salonen. The case reached 3:40,2 minutes meant a new world record. Also, the third in this race - Olavi Vuorisalo ( 3:40,3 minutes) - remained under the old world record time ( 3:40,6 minutes), the Hungarian István Rózsavölgyi had set up in August 1956. On the day it lost Salonen and Salsola the 1,500 -meter world record at the Czechoslovaks Stanislav Jungwirth, who ran 1500 meters in 3:38,1 minutes in Stara Boleslav. The award for the Finnish Sportsman of the Year 1957 Salsola came to fifth place. The title was Olavi Vuorisalo. Salsola 1958 reached a twelfth place at the European Championships in Stockholm.

Olavi Salsola launched for the clubs Kemin Kunto, Tampere Pyrintö and Turun Urheiluliitto.
