Oleg Karavayev

Oleg Nikolaevich Karavayev ( born May 20, 1936 in Minsk; † August 23, 1978 ) was a Soviet wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1960 in Rome.

Career

Oleg Karavayev originates from Belarus and began as a teenager with the rings. As a student, he became a member of " Burewestnik " Minsk and grew to become an outstanding wrestler in the Greco- Roman style. From 1956 to 1960 and 1962 he was a Soviet champion bantamweight. 1957 before Constantine Wyrupajew from Irkutsk and L. Fishman from Kiev. He was then employed at the World Cup 1958 in Budapest and justified where the trust placed in him by winning the world title in the Bantamweight. He needed to seven wins, defeating in the final Yasar Yilmaz from Turkey.
