Onotoa

Onotoa is an atoll in the Pacific archipelago of the Gilbert Islands and part of the nation of Kiribati. It is located about 65 km northwest of Tamana, the smallest island of the archipelago away.

Geography

The atoll has its juxtaposed islands on the east side, while the lagoon on the west side by coral reefs is limited.

The local concerns are regulated by an island council ( Onotoa Iceland Council). Onotoa sends two MPs in Parliament maneaba ni Maungatabu in South Tarawa, for the 10th Parliament 2011-2015 Taaneti Mamau and Kouraiti Beniato were chosen

Onotoa has three primary schools and five health care sites. The population, I- Onotoa, lives on subsistence agriculture, the main source of income is the copra production, which has fallen to a total of 70 tons for the year 2010 according to the Statistical Office of Kiribati. The waters off Onotoa are affected by illegal commercial fishing.

The atoll is accessible by air via the lying on the northern tip airfield Onotoa, which is served by Air Kiribati.
