Ormoy, Haute-Saône

Ormoy is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ormoy situated at an altitude of 230 m above sea level, 9 km northeast of Jussey and about 34 km north- northwest of the city of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northwestern part of the department, a slight increase on the eastern edge of the Talniederung the Saône, between the heights of Bois Saint -Julien in the northwest and Bois Lajux in the south.

The area of ​​19.54 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônetals. The western boundary runs mostly along the Saône, which here flows through a 1.5 -kilometer-wide Alluvialniederung to the southwest. History

Remains of a Merovingian cemetery point to an early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Ormoy in 1150th In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It formed a fief, which had since 1263 held by the Lords of Jonvelle. Together with the Franche -Comté Ormoy came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Attractions

The village church of Ormoy was built in the 18th century and remodeled in the 19th century. From the 16th century comes a former seat of power. The village is characterized by various houses from the 18th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. In the village square there is a round fountain with the statue of Marianne.

Population

With 225 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Ormoy one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 were still 1000 people counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure
