Oshana
Oshana is one of the 13 regions of Namibia. It has about 192,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 5290 km ², the smallest area of region of the country, but with a considerable population. The capital is Oshanas Oshakati.
Geography
Oshana is mostly flat, treeless and usually bone dry, although there were 150 years ago, a dense forest. The region is dominated by the Oshana system with its Cuvelai wetland. This feeds the Oponono Lake.
Management
Oshana is divided into the following constituencies:
- Okaku with 19,262 inhabitants
- Okatana with 15,562 inhabitants
- Okatyali with 2,815 inhabitants
- Ompundja with 4,423 inhabitants
- Ondangwa with 29,783 inhabitants
- Ongwediva with 27 396 inhabitants
- Oshakati - East
- Oshakati - West
- Uukwiyu with 11,894 inhabitants and
- Uuvudhiya with 4,357 inhabitants.
The Ovambo make up the majority population in the region.
