Osse (Doubs)

Osse is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Osse is at 409 m, about 15 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the so-called first plateau, a broad basin at the southern foot of the Jura - edge chain ( French ), at the source of a page of Bach's Gour.

The area of ​​8.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which averages to 410 m. It forms a wide basin with no surface runoff. In Osse rises a small stream, flows northeast to Gour, but the seeps back after a short distance on foot of the Côte. In the area of Osse the plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. To the north, the municipality's area extends over the plateau up to the long and wooded ridge of the Côte du Mont (Jura - edge chain) that separates the plateau from the adjacent Doubs Valley. Here the highest elevation of Osse is achieved with 550 m.

Neighboring communities of Osse are Vaire - Arcier and Deluz in the north, Champlive and Vauchamps in the east, the south and Bouclans Nancray in the West.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Jean -Baptiste in 1784 built on the site of a 1184 already mentioned medieval church. In 1947, the bell tower, which had been damaged by a heavy storm, repaired.

Population

With 331 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Osse is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 248 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Osse was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community.
