Breconchaux

Breconchaux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Breconchaux is located on 346 m, 7 km west of Baume- les -Dames and about 22 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, in a depression at the northern foot of the forest height Pinfou.

The area of ​​3.26 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by a trough, which is on average 340 m and opens to the west into a wide basin. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. Is flanked this trough to the north of the heights of the Bois du Chanoi and the Bois du Grand Val, in the 400 meters, the highest elevation of Breconchaux is achieved. To the south, the municipality's area extends down to the woods back of the Bois du Pinfou (370 m). In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Breconchaux are Val -de- Roulans in the north, Baume- les -Dames and Séchin in the east, Ougney - Douvot and Roulans in the south and Saint- Hilaire and L' Écouvotte in the West.

History

Findings on the corridor Mazirolle -sous -la- Chaille indicate that the municipality of Breconchaux was already inhabited during the Roman period. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Population

With 91 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Breconchaux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 98 people were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Breconchaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N83, which runs from Besançon to Montbéliard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which crosses the municipality, is located at a distance of about 12 km. Further road links exist with L' Écouvotte and Val -de- Roulans.
