Osselle

Osselle is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Osselle is located at 225 m, about 16 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura Mountains and the northern edge of the valley of the Doubs, which reaches out here with a bow far to the south, at the foot of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​7.68 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. In the east, south and west of the border along the Doubs, the multiple turn it flows through up to 2 km wide Talniederung to the plateau of the Grand Bois runs. In the Doubs Valley also the Rhine- Rhone canal is located. To the north, the municipality's area covers the wooded plateau of Grand Bois and Bois du gîte, which is on average 280 m. History

The findings of the Gallo-Roman settlement site Labour Elle indicate that the municipality of Osselle was inhabited very early. Is first mentioned Osselle in 1130 under the name Osella. In the course of time the spelling on Oselle ( 1584) and Oyselle ( 1677) to the present name changed. In the Middle Ages Osselle belonged to the rule Abban. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

  • The village of Saint-Martin church was rebuilt in 1725 on the site of an earlier building.

Population

410 people (as of 1 January 2011) Osselle one of the small communities of the department of Doubs.
