Thoraise

Thoraise is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Thoraise is located at 250 m, about 12 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura, on a rocky outcrop, which is encircled by the Doubs with a wide loop, at the northwest foot of the Mont

The area of ​​3.99 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The western and northern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows through a wide Talniederung and a large curve to the north is characterized by the protrusion of Thoraise. This projection rises 20 to 30 m above the valley floor and is connected to the southeast with the height of Mont, which belongs to the system of law - edge chain in geological- tectonic terms. History

The territory of Thoraise was settled very early. We have not found remains from the Gallo- Roman period, including wall foundations, mosaics, coins and pottery fragments dating from the 2nd century. The castle and the rule Thoraise founded the lord of Mont Ferrand mid-13th century for one of his sons. Over time, the estate belonged to the families Achey and Grammont, before they came to government in the wake of the French Revolution. Together with the Franche -Comté Thoraise came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.
