Vorges-les-Pins

Vorges -les-Pins is a town in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vorges -les- Pins is located at 322 m, about 11 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The former village street line extends close to the western edge of the Jura, in a depression on the ridge between the valleys of Doubs and Loue in the north to the south.

The area of ​​4.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Vorges -les -Pins, which drains north to the Doubs. This is flanked by two elongated hollow hills. In the northwest, the area extends down to the Doubs Valley. To the southeast, the municipality's area covers over the crest of Gros Bois to the Loue, which here flows between the outermost ridges of the Jura Mountains to the southwest. With 480 m is reached on the ridge of the Gros Bois the highest elevation of Vorges -les-Pins.

Neighboring communities of Vorges -les- Pins are Thoraise in the north, Busy and Chenecey- Buillon in the east, and Chouzelot Quingey in the south and Boussières in the West.

History

The place name comes from the Gallic word worrike ( willow). In the Middle Ages Vorges first belonged to the dominion of Thoraise. In 1384 it came to a dispute between the Lords of Mont Ferrand and Abban -Dessus to Jean de Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Vorges was officially renamed in 1923 in Vorges -les-Pins.

Population

With 555 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vorges -les-Pins is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​130-170 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the mid- 1970s. Since then, the population has more than tripled.
