Chouzelot

Chouzelot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chouzelot is located on 267 m, near Quingey, about 18 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the right ( northern ) bank of the Loue in a valley widening at the southern foot of the height of Gros Bois.

The area of ​​6.41 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The area to the east and south is bounded by the Loue, which here flows in spiral running through about one kilometer wide valley to the southwest. Above Chouzelot the valley widens into a basin that is surrounded by the outermost ridges of the Jura. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the flood plain and a steep slope down to the wooded ridge of Gros Bois, which separates the parallel valleys of Loue and Doubs. It forms with 500 m the highest elevation of Chouzelot.

Neighboring communities of Chouzelot are Vorges -les-Pins to the north, the east, and Cessey Quingey the south and west.

History

In the Middle Ages Chouzelot belonged to the rule Quingey. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 281 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chouzelot one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 281 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again. Today, the settlement area of Chouzelot is conjoined with that of Quingey.

Economy and infrastructure

Chouzelot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, particularly in retail. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the old main road N83, which runs from Besançon Lons -le- Saunier. Since 1999, the town with the completion of the bypass from Quingey is relieved of through traffic. Another road connection with Saint -Vit.
