Palantine

Palantine is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Palantine is located at 370 m, 18 km south-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in a slight depression on the plateau west of the valley of the Loue, lunged out here in an arc far to the north, east of the height of the lands.

The area of ​​4.31 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Palantine, which is on average 370 m. The plateau is mainly consisted of meadow land, but also shows a bog area. To the south of the municipality of the base via a ground level to the plateau of Goux enough on the 441 meters, the highest elevation of Palantine is achieved. In the north- west and north, the municipality's area extends over the plateau up to the foot of the lands and into a wooded area. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Palantine are Charnay in the north, Courcelles in the east, Rouhe and Goux -sous- lands in the south and Lavans- Quingey and Cessey in the West.

Population

With 55 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Palantine is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range of 30 to 64 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Palantine was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares near the secondary road which leads from Quingey after Épeugney. Another road connection with Goux -sous- lands.
