Lombard (Doubs)

Lombard is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lombard is located at 290 m, south of Quingey, about 22 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the western edge of a basin of Loue between the heights of the Côte de Moini in the west and the Bois du lands in the east.

The area of ​​5.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The boundaries of the area to the east by the Loue. It flows south through here a wide basin, which is surrounded by the outermost ridges of the Jura. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the flat alluvial plain to the adjacent, predominantly forested ridge. Southwest of the village is the Chataillon (420 m), north west the Côte de Moini, on the 493 m, the highest peak of Lombard is achieved. In between, opens a saddle which leads on to the pool of Liesle to the west. The mountain range stretches from Quingey south to the breakthrough of the Loue in Rennes- sur- Loue.

Neighboring communities of Lombard are Byans -sur -Doubs and Quingey in the north, Lavans- Quingey and Pessans in the east, and Brères Mesmay in the south and Liesle in the West.

History

Is first documented in the 12th century Lombard. Since the Middle Ages belonged to the Lombard domination and Kastlanei Quingey. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de l' Assomption in 1712 built on the site of a medieval chapel and in 1992 the last time extensively restored. In the village are farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries. There is a mill on the Loue.

Population

With 213 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lombard is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 254 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.
