Rennes-sur-Loue

Rennes- sur- Loue is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rennes- sur- Loue is located at 250 m, south of Quingey, about 29 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the left ( eastern ) bank of the Loue near the mouth of the Furieuse, in a basin between the Bois de Trémont the west, and the altitude of By in the east.

The area of ​​5.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Loue, this is about 1.5 kilometers wide. The Loue first flows here southwards, increases from left to Furieuse on and breaks after the mountain range of Trémont. The basin is flanked by the outermost ridges of the Jura. To the west of the municipality of soil ranges on the steep and thickly wooded ridge of Trémont (452 m). To the east, the municipality's area extends over a gently at first, later a relatively steep slope to the edge of the height of By. This mountain range is part of a chain of the Jura, the north stretches from Mont Poupet to the flow loop of the Loue. Here the highest elevation of Rennes- sur- Loue is achieved with 495 m.

Neighboring communities of Rennes- sur- Loue are Chay in the North, By the east, La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse and Grange -de- Vaivre in the south and Port-Lesney, Buffard in the West.

History

Since the Middle Ages Rennes was the center of rule and established itself as a fortified town. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with other cities and towns of the same name, Rennes 1936 was officially renamed in Rennes -sur- Loue.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Vierge -Marie was built in the 19th century. From the medieval castle are only a few remnants still visible. The present castle, which belonged to the Girod family, was built at the beginning of the 18th century and stands in a park with Orangerie (1829 ). In the village are citizens and peasants' houses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 91 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rennes- sur- Loue is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 204 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rennes- sur- Loue was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besançon Lons -le- Saunier. Another road connection with La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse.
