Samson (Doubs)

Samson is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Samson is located at 305 m, south of Quingey, 24 km south-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the western Jura, on a plateau east of Loue between the heights of the Bois du Peu in the west and the Bois du Fay in the east.

The area of ​​1.95 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, which lies in a wide basin of the Loue between the outermost ridges of the Jura to about 300 m. It is slightly inclined to the west and is bordered to the north by the valley of the Bief de Caille. At the eastern edge municipality, at the foot of Bois du Fay, is 361 m reached the highest elevation of Samson.

Neighboring communities of Samson are Montfort in the north, Ronchaux in the east, the south and Paroy Brères in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Samson belonged to the rule Montfort. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 85 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Samson is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 33-70 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Samson was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises.
