Ronchaux

Ronchaux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ronchaux is located at 320 m, south of Quingey, 24 km south-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the western Jura, in the valley of Bief de Caille and east of Loue at the foot of Bois du Fay.

The area of ​​5.24 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by a plateau-like hill at the foot of the Bois du Fay. This hill descends towards the west the wide basin of the Loue, which is framed by the outermost ridges of the Jura. Slightly sunk into this plateau is the trough of the stream Bief de Caille, the southeast of the village in the Source de la Mittonière springs and partly forms the northern border. To the east, the municipality's area extends over a steep slope on the wooded ridge of the Bois du Fay and Bois de la Chau. This mountain range is part of a chain of the Jura, the north stretches from Mont Poupet to the flow loop of the Loue. Here the highest elevation of Ronchaux is achieved with 593 m.

Neighbours of Montfort Ronchaux are in the north, Bartherans in the east, the south and By Paroy and Samson in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Ronchaux belonged to the rule Montfort. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 90 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ronchaux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century as a whole ( 1901 130 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Ronchaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community.
