Cessey

Cessey is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cessey is located at 320 m, 16 km south-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the western Jura, on a terrace on the lower western slopes of the Mont de Cessey, about 50 m above the river Loue.

The area of ​​7.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The area bounded on the west by the Loue, which here flows in spiral running through about one kilometer wide valley to the southwest. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward across the terrace of Cessey up on the wooded ridge of the Mont de Cessey. This mountain is one of a chain of the Jura, which stretches from Mont Poupet to the flow loop of the Loue. It forms with the highest elevation of 534 m Cessey. The community also share in the plateau (400 m ) adjacent to the east of the Mont de Cessey.

To Cessey the hamlet of Grange du Fourneau part (425 m ) on a saddle north of Mont de Cessey. Neighboring communities of Cessey are Chenecey- Buillon in the north, Charnay and Palantine in the east, the south and Lavans- Quingey Quingey and Chouzelot in the West.

Attractions

The Municipal House ( Mairie ) was built in 1834. In the old town several farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 347 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cessey one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 211 persons were still counted ), a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has more than quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure
