La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse

La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse is located at 280 m above sea level. M., about 29 km east-southeast of the city of Dole (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, in the valley Furieuse shortly before its confluence with the Loue, both sides of the Ruisseau d' Ivrey at the northwest foot of Mont Poupet.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse been inhabited since prehistoric times and during the Gallo- Roman period. In the years 1636 to 1638 the village was hit by severe plague epidemics. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1825, when the previously independent municipalities Onay and Chilley (now Saint- Benoît ) were incorporated to La Chapelle. To avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, La Chapelle was officially renamed in 1933 in La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse.

Attractions

The Village Church of La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse was built in the 16th century and modified in the 17th century. Next to the church stands a manor house, which was built in the 18th century. In the chapel of Saint- Benoît is a stone statue from the 15th century. Also the hamlet Onay has a small chapel from the 17th century.

Population

With 329 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Chapelle- sur- Furieuse one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 460 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.
