Routelle

Routelle is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Routelle is located at 220 m, about 15 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura Mountains and the northern edge of the valley of the Doubs, which also occurs here in the Saône plain.

The area of ​​3.06 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows through a 1 km wide Talniederung to the west. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flat alluvial plain, which is also home of the Rhine- Rhone canal is located, to the adjacent, slightly undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The area is mainly used for arable and meadow land, partly it is passed with forest ( Bois d' Ambre in the North West, the Bois du Gîte in the east). With a narrow strip of communal land extends to the southeast on a hillside of Grand Bois, at the 358 m, the highest point reached by Routelle.

Neighboring communities of Routelle are Velesmes - Dessessart in the north, Torpes in the east, and Osselle Roset - Fluans in the south and Saint -Vit to the west.

History

Routelle is in the 16th century under the name Rotel, Rotelle and Lindsay. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village church of Routelle was built in 1844 and restored in 1879. West of the village, along a short side of the river Doubs, is the mill Moulin du Ringeard.

Population

With 482 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Routelle one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 262 persons were still counted ), a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1970s. Since then the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Routelle was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
