Otterbach (Verbandsgemeinde)

The community association Otterbach is an administrative unit in the form of a local authority in the district of Kaiserslautern, in Rhineland- Palatinate. The community association composed of seven independent local churches, the council is based in the eponymous municipality Otterbach.
On 1 July 2014, the municipality Otterbach will be merged with the municipality Otter mountain.
It is located in the upper Lauter, immediately before the University of Kaiserslautern and is crossed by the highway 270 along its entire length, parallel to the railway line runs Kaiserslautern-Lauterecken/Grumbach.

History
The community association Otterbach originated in 1971 as part of a functional and territorial reform in the state of Rhineland -Palatinate.
During the second, begun in 2010, Rhineland-Palatinate, municipal and administrative reform, the Association of Municipalities Otterbach and Otter Mountain are to be merged on the basis of the current and so-called until 30 June 2012 " voluntary " phase.
On 14 December 2010 the municipality councils of the associated municipalities decided in separate but at the same time held meetings the fusion of the adjacent unitary councils in 2014. The merger agreement was signed by the two mayors, Harald Westrich ( municipality Otterbach ) and Martin Müller ( municipality Otter Mountain ), at the same day signed.
After 20 December 2011 adopted " state law on the voluntary formation of a new municipality Otterbach Otter Mountain" a new community association with the name " Otterbach Otter Mountain" is formed on 1 July 2014. Administrative center is the city of Otter mountain be in Otterbach should remain a second office. The election of the association council and the mayor of the new municipality will be held on the day of the general elections in 2014.

The association council Otterbach consists of 24 volunteer council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the full-time mayor as chairman.

The blazon of the arms is: " Divided into blue sign board in silver, with a blue wave bar, above a blue otter with a black fish in its mouth, down a green oak branch with two green leaves and two gold acorns, beseitet of each a black salt crystal ".
It was approved by the district government Neustadt 1976.
Traffic
Through the municipality runs in a south-north direction, the Lauter Valley Railway, which owns there with Lampertsmühle - Otterbach, Katzweiler, Hirschhorn / Pfalz, Untersulzbach and Olsbrücken five intermediate stops.
