Palárikovo

Palárikovo ( until 1948 slovak " Slovenský Meder "; German rarely Upper Market, Hungarian Tótmegyer ) is a municipality in southwestern Slovakia, which lies 88 km away from Bratislava in the Danube lowland and about 4400 inhabitants.

Structure

The municipality is divided into the eponymous main town and the settlements Čiky and Ľudovítov. The already longer existing settlements Kerestúr, Žofia and Jur no longer occur as independent units. In the village live about 4400 inhabitants, of which 96.7 % Slovak and 2.1% of Hungarian descent ( 2001).

History

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1248. It was renamed in 1948 in honor of the Slovak priest, journalist and playwright Ján Palárik in Palárikovo.

Since 2000 Palárikovo is the first community in Slovakia, the international concept - introduced " Zero Waste routing calls to the zero waste ".

Personalities

  • Alexander Mach - Slovak politician and journalist, Minister of the Interior during the Second World War.
  • Karol Střmen, actually Karol Bekéni - an important exponent of Catholic modernism in exile, poet, translator, journalist, educator, literary critic and university professor.
