Papyrus 72

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 72) Papyrus 72 is another name for Papyrus Bodmer VII -IX. It is an early papyrus manuscript of the New Testament. It contains the complete text of 1 Peter, 2nd Letter of Peter and of Jude. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 3rd or 4th century.

Description

It is the oldest known manuscript of this letter, although some verses of Judas in the fragment 78 ( P. Oxy. 2684 ) are included.

The document also contains the naturalness of Mary, the apocryphal correspondence of the third letter to the Corinthians, the eleventh of the Odes of Solomon, Melitos Homily on the Passover, the fragment of a hymn, the Apology of Phileas and Psalm 33 and 34 It was on 72 leaves ( 14.5 × 16 cm) with 16-20 lines per page written in a documentary handwriting.

The Nomina sacra are written with abbreviations.

Text

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type. According to Aland is in 1 and 2 Peter is a normal text in Judah to a free text and both with some Pekuliarien. Aland placed it in Category I. It is close to the Codex Vaticanus and Codex Alexandrinus.

A portion of the manuscript is currently being kept in the, in the Bibliotheca Bodmeriana in Cologny at Geneva, one other part in the Vatican Library in Rome.
