Patrick " Pat" Stewart Onstad ( born January 13, 1968 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) is a Canadian football goalkeeper. Onstad is since the 2011 season for D.C. United active and also assistant coach of the team.

Career

Youth and club career

While studying at the University of British Columbia in his hometown of Vancouver Onstad made ​​his first experiences in football. 1987, after he had completed his studies, he moved to the Vancouver 86ers, which was then played in the Canadian Soccer League. From 1988 to 1989 he played in the same league for Winnipeg Fury. After the Fury he played in his third CSL team, Toronto Blizzard. In 1992 he returned to Winnipeg Fury and became champion and Goalkeeper of the Year.

After dissolution of the Canadian Soccer League, Onstad joined the A-League, the second highest football league in the United States. In 1994, he played for the Toronto Rockets and 1995 for the Montreal Impact. In the Edmonton Drillers in 1996, he played indoor soccer before he was on the field in 1997 with the Toronto Lynx back in the A-League.

Pat Onstand changed again, and indeed to the Rochester Raging Rhinos, where he played from 1998 to 1999 and from 2001 to 2002. In 2000 he played for Scottish club Dundee United, was there but not used.

In 2003 he moved to first in the MLS and was first-choice goalkeeper at the San Jose Earthquakes. After their move to Houston and the conversion to Houston Dynamo, he now plays for the Texans. After the 2010 season, his contract was not renewed and he came into the MLS Re - Entry Draft. There he was selected by any team and was initially without a club.

On 21 December 2010 he made his career end known and new assistant coach for DC United. On 17 February 2011 Onstad was included in the squad, as the two goalkeeper Steve Cronin and Bill Hamid failed due to an injury. On 31 May 2011 he returned to his duties as assistant coach.

National

Onstad played for Canada at the Junior World Cup 1987 in Chile. He was however used in any game and had to Craig Forrest give preference. The year before he was able to win with the team, the CONCACAF U- 20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago.

His first cap for the Canadian national soccer team, he announced on February 18, 1988 against the national team of Bermuda. For over twenty years he was in goal for the Canadians. In total, he completed 57 internationals. His last international match was on 24 May 2010 from Argentina. Prior to that he was in August 2008, the last time in goal.
