Paul Pierce

Paul Anthony Pierce ( born October 13, 1977 in Oakland, California), also known by the nickname "The Truth", is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA. Pierce is 201 cm tall, 106.6 kg heavy and plays on the position of the Small Forwards.

Career

High School

Pierce grew up in Inglewood, California and was the star of the basketball team of Inglewood High School. He was invited because of his remarkable way of playing to the McDonald 's All- American Game, where he could also compete with future NBA stars like Kevin Garnett and Vince Carter.

College

Pierce scored in his three years at the University of Kansas under Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams an average of 16.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and was voted the MVP of the Big 12 Conference Tournament in both 1997 and 1998.

NBA

Pierce was drafted in the first round of the 1998 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. After his debut he was to achieve due to its ability points to get rebounds and his services in the defense and because numerous game-changing actions quickly becoming one of the best players in the Eastern Conference. Together with teammate Antoine Walker he led the Celtics in 2002 for the first time in seven years in the playoffs and there until the Eastern Conference Finals. In the third match of this series, he led the Celtics to the biggest comeback victory in the history of the NBA playoffs. He scored in the fourth quarter of 19 of his total 28 points and the Celtics were able to catch a 21- point deficit and secure the victory.

In the NBA season 2006/ 07 he had to sit 35 games due to a stress fracture in his foot. The Celtics lost this season, 18 games in a row and generally had one of the worst seasons in its history with only 24 wins. Prior to the 2007/ 08 season, the Celtics reinforced with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Pierce improved this season strong in defense because he no longer had to carry the whole offense alone. 18 May 2008 Pierce scored 41 points, the second- most points in a seventh game in the history of the Celtics during a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. On June 5, 2008 in the first game of the NBA Finals in 2008 against the Los Angeles Lakers, Pierce injured in the third quarter and had to be carried off the field. After a few minutes he returned to the field back, scored only 15 points in the third quarter and led his team to a 99:88 victory. In six games, the Celtics beat the Lakers in the NBA Finals in 2008 and thus won their 17th NBA championship. Pierce was elected the Most Valuable Player of the Finals series.

The following season, Pierce had to sit just a game and led the team in points. Due to a serious injury of Kevin Garnett, the Celtics had to say goodbye to the 2009 tournament in the second round of the NBA playoffs. In the 2009/10 season, Pierce took part in the three-way contest as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend in 2010 and was able to prevail against its competitors as the first player of the Celtics since Larry Bird. On 3 November 2010 Pierce scored the 20,000 point of his career in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the Draft Night 2013, he was traded as part of the reconstruction along with Kevin Garnett to the Nets. But He is nevertheless one of the best Celtics player of all time and is mentioned in one breath with Bill Russell and Larry Bird.

Nickname

His nickname, "The Truth " Pierce owes Shaquille O'Neal, who after a victory of his team against the Celtics in 2001, has said, " My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the [ expletive ] truth. Quote me on did and do not take nothing out. Could I knew he play, but I did not know he Could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth. "

Knife attack

On 25 September 2000 Pierce was stabbed in the Buzz Club 11 times in the face, the neck and the back and a bottle was smashed on his head. According to witnesses, he wanted a simple dispute and got caught in the crossfire. Tony Battie, who was also at the Celtics under contract, Pierce saved by driving it as quickly as possible to the nearest hospital. Pierce had to be performed emergency surgery to save his life.
