Pavel Telička

Pavel Telička [ pavɛl tɛlitʃka ] ( born August 24, 1965 in Washington, DC, USA ) is a Czech politician and former European Commissioner.

Telička received his degree in law at the Charles University in Prague in 1986.

He immediately went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the former Czechoslovakia, where he studied until 1990 with international law. Since 1990, he is primarily concerned with European integration. Between 1991 and 1995 he was at the Czechoslovak and later Czech Representation to the European Union.

From 1995 to Telička was head of various departments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Deputy Foreign Minister in 1998. In this office he was the chief negotiator in the accession negotiations between the Czech Republic and the EU. He was Secretary of State for European Affairs, 1999. 2002 Telička Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the European Communities.

In February 2004 he was appointed Commissioner. On May 1, he was introduced to the office, along with David Byrne, he was responsible for consumer protection. Since he received no more official in the new Commission, his term ended in November 2004.

Telička has made as a speaker in European affairs a name. He is also involved in social projects.

Pavel Telička is married and has a son and a daughter.
