Pedro Fré

Pedro Fré CSSR ( born August 30, 1924 in Cerquilho, † April 3, 2014 in Aparecida ) was a Brazilian religious clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Barretos.

Life

Pedro Fré occurred on April 7, 1938 in the Seminary of St. Alphonsus of the Redemptorists in Aparecida one. In 1945, he joined himself with the Congregation of the Redemptorists and made his novitiate in Pindamonhangaba from. On 2 February 1946 he passed the profession. After studying philosophy and theology at the seminary Seminário Santa Teresinha Tietê received on December 27, 1950 in Tietê ordination by José Carlos de Aguirre, Bishop of Sorocaba.

He was from 1953 to 1970 pastor of Aparecida. He was from 1965 to 1967 and from 1979 to 1984 Rector of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Aparecida. In the Marian shrine is the second largest basilica in the world, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, " Our Lady of Aparecida " ( Basílica de Nossa Senhora Aparecida ), Patroness of Brazil.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 28 October 1985 for the Bishop of Corumbá. The Apostolic Nuncio to Brazil Carlo Cardinal Furno consecrated him on January 5, 1986 in the Basilica of Aparecida to the bishop; Co-consecrators were Geraldo María de Morais Penido, Archbishop of Aparecida, and Ladislau Paz SDB, Bishop Emeritus of Corumbá. His episcopal motto was " Curar os corações feridos " ( Heal the wounded hearts ).

On 2 December 1989 he was appointed Bishop of Barretos. On 20 December 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
