Pennabilli

Pennabilli is a municipality with 3,098 inhabitants ( 2008) in the Italian province of Rimini ( Emilia- Romagna).

History

The union of the two original places ' Penna ' and ' Billi ' was sealed in 1350 with the peace stone in the marketplace. ' Penna ' comes from the Latin " Pinna ", ' Billi ' from ' Bilia " ( elevation between trees ) according to the characteristic shapes of the two hills. " Billi " but is also attributed to the Etruscan god of fire " Bel ", which was a precursor temple of the Church of San Lorenzo, which is dedicated to fire martyr Lawrence of Rome, revered. 1572 was Pennabilli bishopric ( diocese of Montefeltro ) and city.

After the Italian unification Pennabilli belonged until 15 August 2009 to the province of Pesaro and Urbino ( Marche region ). Against this territorial change that also six other municipalities ( Casteldelci, Novafeltria, Maiolo, San Leo, Sant'Agata Feltria and Talamello ) was adopted on the basis of a referendum, the brand went in vain before the Constitutional Court.

Relations with Tibet

Since the 18th century, when Orazio Olivieri founded a mission station in Lhasa and the first printing press with movable type in Tibet as well as the first dictionary Italian- Tibetan wrote, there are good relations between Pennabilli and Tibet, which culminated in the visit of the Dalai Lama in 1994.
