Pest County

The Pest [ pɛʃt ] is a county in central Hungary, around the capital Budapest, which is equivalent to a county. It is 6394 km ² and has 1,083,000 inhabitants. It is bordered on the north by Slovakia as well as the counties Nógrád, Heves, Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok, Bács -Kiskun, Fejér and Komárom -Esztergom. The county administration is located in Budapest.

The country is as part of the Great Hungarian Plain mostly flat land, only the north and west are hilly. The county is traversed by the Danube, which at Vac ( German Waitzen ) makes a sharp bend to the south ( Danube Bend with the city of Szentendre ). Nearby is also the historically significant city of Visegrad with the neighboring town of Nagymaros, in which in the early 1990s, a power plant project could be prevented. East of Budapest is the former royal summer residence in Gödöllő with the Hungaroring.
