Petronell -Carnuntum is a market town with 1240 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Lower Austrian district of Bruck an der Leitha.

Geography

Petronell -Carnuntum is located in the industrial area in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 25.36 square kilometers. 25.99 percent of the area is forested. The municipality is situated on the right bank of the Danube south-west of Hainburg an der Donau, 182 meters above sea level.

History

In ancient times, the fortress of Carnuntum was part of the Roman province of Pannonia.
