Geographical Location

Oberpfaffenhofen is located on the Zaber in Zabergäu in the southwestern district of Heilbronn.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring cities and municipalities Pfaffenhofen are ( clockwise from the west): Zaberfeld, Epping, Güglingen (all district Heilbronn) and Saxony home ( district of Ludwigsburg ). Together with Güglingen and Zaberfeld forms Oberpfaffenhofen the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband "Upper Zabergäu " based in Güglingen.

Community structure

History

Oberpfaffenhofen was probably founded at the time of the Christianization of Germany. As Pfaff Hoven, it was first mentioned in a deed dated May 30, 1279. Even before 1380 sold Burkhard of Hohenberg half of the village in Wuerttemberg, 1380 then followed by the other half.

Hamlet on the Zaber probably existed as early as the year 1000. On June 15, 1279 it was first mentioned in a document. In the 14th century, the town was part of Württemberg. On 1 January 1972 the hamlet was incorporated on the Zaber after Oberpfaffenhofen.

Religions

Oberpfaffenhofen church belonged originally to the diocese of Speyer. With the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg became Lutheran.   • The Lambertus Church is a Protestant parish church. It goes back to a Gothic building with choir tower in 1300, has been extended several times and received its present shape largely through a rebuilding 1610 /12.
  • The associated rectory was in 1610 as well as the church expansion of Heinrich Schickhardt built. The Walling of the parish garden goes back to parts of the village walls of the 15th century, which was demolished a few remnants in 1817.
  • The fountain on the Kelterplatz and a nearby wall fountains were designed by the sculptor Güglinger Gunther Stilling.
  • In the center of numerous half-timbered houses of the 16th and 17th centuries have been preserved along the main road.

South of the town, on the ridge of the mountain stream, lies the White Quarry, an important archaeological site of fossils from the Keuper, with an upstream observation deck.
