Phenomenon - The impossible is true ( Original Title: Phenomenon ) is an American film drama from 1996 was directed by Jon Turteltaub, Gerald Di Pego wrote the screenplay. . The film stars John Travolta and Kyra Sedgwick. The film represents in many areas the ideology of Scientology, to which Travolta had hingewandt. Action

George Malley is a car mechanic and lives in a small town in California. When he is " blown away " the night of his 37th birthday after his birthday party by a mysterious beam of light, he developed strong mental powers. It can quickly read, learn and move with the objects of thought. On several occasions, he presents his new skills to the test, which he, however, not only brings benevolence. He and the recently -arrived single mother Lace Penn amine come closer. His old friends look at him with suspicion, only Doc Brunder and Nate Pope George remain faithful.

The government is interested in the capabilities of Malley, but he wants his forces be used for good purposes.

James Berardinelli compared the film to ReelViews with Forrest Gump, but spoke to him from his intelligence. He also criticized the film as stupid (dumb ) and the screenplay as a dog miserable ( abysmal ). He also suspected the film spread the messages of Scientology.

Roger Ebert praised in the Chicago Sun - Times of 3 July 1996 the enthusiastic character of George Malley. This character and the relationship of George and Lace would be the focal point of the action ( the heart of the story) of warm ( good- hearted ) film.

Awards

John Travolta and Forest Whitaker won the 1997 Blockbuster Entertainment Award. Forest Whitaker won the 1997 Image Award. The film was nominated in 1997 as Best Fantasy Film for the Saturn Award.

John Travolta and Kyra Sedgwick were nominated in 1997 for Best Kiss for the MTV Movie Award, nominations for this prize was awarded to John Travolta for Best Actor and Eric Clapton for the song Change the World. The song Change The World also won the 1997 ASCAP Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and BMI Film & TV Award, a further BMI Film & TV Award went to Thomas Newman.

Tony Genaro was nominated for the 1996 NCLR Bravo Award. Ashley Buccille was nominated in 1997 for the Young Artist Award.

Background

The production cost of the film amounted to approximately 32 million U.S. dollars. The shooting took place in Davis ( California).

2003 quasi- remake Phenomenon II was - produced a wonderful genius for television, the film repeatedly in many parts of the plot from the movie. There were, however, adds a few characters, and a storyline with the NSA. The open end of the TV remakes suggests that the film was designed as a pilot film of a TV series.
