Philip de Lalaing

Philip de Lalang (* 1510, † 1555), the second Duke of Hoogstraten, 1543 was imperial governor of the Duchy of Jülich and from 1544 to 1555 the province of Gelderland and Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

Life

Philip was born into an old noble family from the county of Hainaut, and was the second son of Charles I. de Lalang (1466-1525) and Jacqueline de Luxembourg. He inherited the earldom from his childless uncle Hoogstraten Antoine I de Lalang.

In 1543 Philip was for a short time imperial governor in previously conquered Duchy of Jülich. A year later he took Renatus of Chalon as governor of the province of Gelderland from.

Family

He married in 1532 Anne of Rennenberg, the only daughter of Count William of Rennenberg and Cornelia of Culemborg. They had the following children:
