Pierrot (company)

K. K. Pierrot (Japanese株式会社 ぴえろ, Kabushiki - gaisha Piero, Eng. Pierrot Co., Ltd.. ) Is a Japanese production studio for anime.

The name of the company is derived from the French word for clown.

History

In April 1977, the animators and directors Yuji Nunokawa closed (布川 郁 司), Mitsuo Uenashi (上 梨 満 雄) and Hiroko Tokita (ときた ひろこ) to a common group together. In May 1979 it was the animation company KK Studio Pierrot (株式会社 スタジオ ぴえろ, kabushiki - gaisha Sutajio Piero ) in Mitaka, near Tokyo.

Nunokawa and Uenashi who worked among others for Tatsunoko Production, more directors recruited from there - for instance Hisayuki Toriumi (鸟 海 永 行), Masami Anno (案 纳 正 美), Motosuke Takashi (高桥 资 佑) Mamoru Oshii and. The first animation work was created from 1980 to 1981, the television series Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson with the wild geese, which was produced by Gakken. Urusei Yatsura in 1981 followed ( 1981-1986 ) with Kitty film as a producer. For Gakken they animated in sequence then the television series Maicching Machiko -sensei (1981-1983) and Mrs. Pepper Pot ( 1983-1984). For the 20th anniversary of the studio in 1998 should then appear in continuation with these series Maho no Stage Fancy Lala. From 1992 to 1995 the studio with the film adaptation of the Shonen Jump title Yū Yū Hakusho had a another great success, which with Naruto (since 2002) and Bleach joined another long -running adaptation of this shōnen manga magazine ( since 2004).

2002 joined the K. K. Pierrot Project and K. K. Studio Pierrot to the Joint Undertaking K. K. Pierrot together. Since 2004, this occurs at the previous company name branded Studio Pierrot (studioぴえろ) is followed.
